We were told by the "locals" that Kauai is the island most like the "old Hawaii", and I believe it. It is an amazing paradise that I enjoyed exploring. The natural settings in the state parks help immensely to preserve the true feeling of Paradise in Hawaii. I understand why they chose to film Jurassic Park on this island given the lush amazing colors of the sun reflecting off cliffs, canyons and waterfalls. It was exciting to explore along the lava rocks where they meet the coastline and the many coves. Even more spectacular was the powerful surf and the crystal clear turquoise colored ocean.
We travelled to the top of Waimea Canyon State Park, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It was a breathtaking and ear popping experience that I would have never expected on a Hawaiian island. We discovered some great waterfalls along the glowing red rock that provided amazing shadows and sights. Equally amazing were the spectacular cliffs with sharp edges and colorful natural wildlife.
I am already anxious to take another trip back to Kauai, and I feel with these photos I am beginning to capture the essence and spirit of Hawaii. This is just a selection of the moments I captured. I will update this section in a few weeks so Enjoy....
