Lido Key is the closest key to downtown Sarasota. Located between the larger Longboat and Siesta Keys it is well known for St. Armand's Circle with its world class restaurants, galleries and shopping. It is a great place to have dinner al fresco and people watch, or just stroll around and see some great art and unique Florida souvenirs. It's also has a number of great ice cream shops with many tasty varieties of the frozen delight.
Just to the south of St. Armand's Circle is Lido Beach. Lido has crystal clear water and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. There are amazing sand dunes and fine white sand all along the north section of the Key, and you can find unique shells and full sand dollars up and down the coast. The south section of the key has South Lido Park with its amazing natural setting including mangrove tunnels and birds of all kinds. I enjoy kayaking through the tunnels ... which is one of the best ways to experience the real, natural Florida.
